A massive 8.7 Magnitude Earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula has led to Tsunami warning across the Pacific coasts for Hawaii Japan and along the West Coast of United States overnight

The earthquake is the largest earthquake on the planet since the 2011 Japanese Tōhoku earthquake

Reports say the quake has damaged buildings and has generated a tsunami of up to 4 metres

Tsunami alarms sounded in coastal towns across Japan’s Pacific coast with authorities urging people to seek higher ground.
Footage on public broadcaster NHK showed scores of people in the northern island of Hokkaido on the roof of a building, sheltering under tents from the beating sun, as fishing boats left harbours to avoid potential damage from the incoming waves.

In Hawaii pictures are showing gridlocked traffic as residents rush to get to higher ground.

The U.S. military is now assisting in islandwide tsunami evacuation efforts.
