An Oldham-based fire protection equipment manufacturer has nearly doubled the size of its headquarters and invested in new state-of-the-art machinery as it looks to increase its turnover by £13m over the next five years.

Founded in 1969, R Tindall Fabricators manufactures and distributes the pipework for fire sprinkler systems, supplying approved contractors who then install the systems across a range of buildings, including warehouses, offices and retail stores.

The company has enjoyed a strong period of growth in recent years, having doubled the size of its workforce in the last 12 months to 82 employees.

In response to increasing demand for its specialist services, it’s used a £4m finance package from Lloyds to expand its headquarters by acquiring a new 23,000 sq ft industrial unit, taking its total workspace to 45,000 sq ft. This has allowed it to store an additional £600,000 worth of stock, providing a major boost to its distribution service – one of the key drivers of its recent growth.

Alongside this, it’s also used a £300,000 asset finance package to invest in three new, semi-automated machines for the production of its fire sprinkler pipework. This has boosted efficiency within its manufacturing process, removing the need for a night shift – halving the business’ energy usage and carbon emissions, while doubling its output.

These investments are part of R Tindall’s efforts to supercharge its growth. The business, which currently has a turnover of £17m, is targeting a £30m turnover within the next five years. As part of this, it’s expanding its operations into London later this year as well as grow into Europe’s fire protection market.

Aaron Khan, strategic and operations director at R Tindall Fabricators said: “Ensuring that buildings have the proper fire prevention systems in place is essential and we’ve recognised a need to support building owners so that they can make sure their properties are up to improved standards and are safe for people.

“We are now looking to take this further and supercharge our growth over the next few years. This latest investment into our Oldham headquarters is just the first step towards this, and I’m grateful for the support from Lloyds in helping us to pursue this.”

Garry Birchall, relationship director at Lloyds, said: “The progress R Tindall has made over the past few years is remarkable. But rather than rest on their laurels, the business is as determined as ever to continue its growth journey.

“With this investment in its current operations in Oldham, it is giving itself a strong platform to go and pursue new opportunities both in the UK and abroad, and I look forward to continuing to support the business as it carries on with its incredible progress.”
