Manchester rapper Persia returns with The Alchemy of Pain, her latest release and first full-length album to date, dropping everywhere on Sun 9th July, 2023. It is a project that traverses the audible world with a distinct style and beat selection; a fitting testament to Persia’s ability as an artist.
The Alchemy of Pain is littered with old school Griselda style underground sounds, along with Joyner Lucas style trap beats and conscious J-Cole inspired instrumentals, all thrown into the mixing pot to create something truly unique, resulting in an in-your-face demonstration of Persia’s agility as a writer and a creative.
Recorded and released by Manchester’s own Midication Recordings, and fully produced by legend of the scene JSD, this album showcases Persia’s word play, multi-syllabics, assonance and skill level, throwing a much-needed a breath of fresh air into a genre riddled with copycats. Persia is a serious lyricist, bringing together a sound of her own in a project which has taken years of hard work to actualise.
Persia went to school with JSD and has been writing and recording with intensity since she was 16 years old. Her unique flows, storytelling ability, and powerful punchlines have seen her garner backing from BBC Radio 1 with her single ‘The Rebirth // The Renaissance’ featuring on Gemma Bradley’s show in 2021.
Persia says: “Life takes over, things happen which stop you from pursuing music; I spent two years writing this project and a lifetime building up to it – I am truly grateful to be in the position to make it happen. I’m proud of this project. JSD and I have been friends for years and I really enjoyed working with him on this. His production really complements my style and he knows how I want to sound and he is an amazing producer in his own right.”
Over the last decade Midication Recordings has developed a core stable of Manchester artists as a result of JSD producing and engineering for local talent and organically developing a talented roster into a family of some of the city’s best rappers and singers.
With a recording studio based between the City Centre and Cheetham Hill, JSD supports a thriving community of talented musicians; he co-writes, produces, mixes and masters for all of Midication’s artists, and has produced for renowned artists across the UK including Dibo Brown, Misha B, plus many more.
