An online networking site for parents, childcare providers and schools has revealed that Manchester parents outnumber local childcare providers by more than seven to two.

There are currently only 418 childcare providers actively searching for work in Manchester, however there are 1,416 parents and carers searching for childcare – a deficit of almost 1,000.

The figures have been provided by one the UKs biggest online networking platform for parents, childcare providers, tutors and schools.

Childcare.co.uk has used its internal data to compare the number of parents and carers actively searching for childcare services in Manchester, and has revealed that is one of the most in demand places in the UK for childcare providers.

There are currently only 418 childcare providers actively searching for work in Manchester, however there are 1,416 parents and carers searching for childcare – a deficit of almost 1,000.

Manchester’s average hourly childcare costs sit at £7.00, making it the most expensive area in the North West. Childcare providers here command a higher price, on average, than other big cities in the area, such as Liverpool (£6.82), Bradford (£6.41), Sheffield (£6.28) and Leeds (£6.89). That’s thanks in part to the huge demand for childcare providers in the Manchester area according to Childcare.co.uk.

Manchester parents can find out their exact childcare costs by putting their postcode into Childcare.co.uk’s online calculator: https://www.childcare.co.uk/costs

The national average for childcare services sits at £7.16, meaning Manchester parents, on average, pay 16p less per hour than parents across the rest of the UK.

The most expensive type of childcare in Manchester is nannying, which costs on average £9.50 per hour, followed by babysitting at £8.25, day nurseries at £5.30 and childminding at £4.85.

Childcare.co.uk is a platform which allows parents to search for and connect with babysitters, childminders, nannies, nurseries, private tutors and schools and also allows childcare providers to advertise their services. The site has more than 1.5 million users nationwide and is the largest online community for parents in the UK having launched in 2009.

Richard Conway, Childcare.co.uk CEO and founder said,

“It always interests me to see how things change based on location, whether that be childcare costs, numbers of providers or most sought-after childcare types.

We have thousands of childcare providers across the UK and it’s interesting to see that there is such a disconnect between the number of parents in need and childcare providers available! With thousands of parents looking for providers there’s never been a better time for childcare professionals to join the site.”
