Police are now treating the death of a man In a fire in Salford in the early hours of this morning as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to a property on Berry Street in Clifton at 12.35am , to a report of a fire.

Following a search by firefighters, the body of a man was discovered inside the property. Formal identification is yet to take place.

A joint investigation with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has been launched to establish the cause of the fire.
Residents from nearby properties were evacuated whilst the fire was extinguished, and all have since been allowed back into their homes.

Detective Chief Inspector Amber Waywell of GMP’s Salford borough said: “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this terrible time.

“Our enquiries are in the early stages however we are treating this as suspicious.

“Patrols have been increased in the area and anyone with any concerns is asked to speak to officers.

“If you have any information about what happened or how the fire started, please get in touch.”
