A man who was overheard by plain clothed officers in the City Centre about drunk driving has been arrested

On Saturday night officers overheard a man talking loudly from across the street saying he was likely over the drink drive limit but would drive family members home regardless.

Stumbling across streets, officers didn’t believe he would locate his car. Somehow he made it to a car park however officers lost sight of them as they entered.

Around 5 minutes later they swooped in as he drove up to the exit barrier, he refused a breath sample and has since been charged with failing to provide a sample at the roadside.

His female passenger who repeatedly shouted at him to drive off from officers before getting out and fighting an officer was arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.

She has since been bailed, the case will be taken to the CPS for a decision.
