A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police reopened an investigation into the death of a women in Bury back in 2014.
49-year-old Linda Richardson was found unconscious at a house on Spencer Street in June of that year and later died in hospital.
An investigation into the circumstances was launched at the time and the case was subsequently closed as it was deemed there were no suspicious circumstances but in November last year, officers received new information that caused police to reopen the case.
Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “Whenever new credible information comes to light, whether the case is closed or not, we have a duty to investigate it.
“We have a man in custody who will be questioned by specialist officers to aid our investigation while we carry out our enquiries and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
The man remains in custody for questioning.
