The Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has been addressing the concerns of some Labour MPs about inquiries into grooming gangs by local councils.

She told the Radio Four Today programme

There hasn’t been a change. There’s a lot of misinformation about this.”

In January,The Home Secretary announced a three-month rapid review into the issue, as well as five local inquiries – but has only named the location for one, in Oldham.

However the former Chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission Sir Trevor Phillips, claimed the government is not naming locations for “obviously political” reasons, because of the “demographic of people involved”.

Asked on Sky News Are you watering down your response to child sexual exploitation?

Cooper replied: “No, completely the opposite… we’re increasing the police investigations, because these are dangerous perpetrators & they should be behind bars.”

While later on LBC she said we should be doing is all working together to support victims again confirming that local inquiries into grooming gangs are going ahead.
