The Mayor will be joined this afternoon by the leader of Manchester City Council Sir Richard Leese

Sir Richard Leese begins the conference -The rate of increase in slowing down,the figure of hospital deaths has just exceeded 1,000.

Admissions and occupation of hospital beds are down over the last eight to ten days.

Sir Richard doesn’t believe that the region has yet reached its peak but is not far away from it

Cancer referalls are down by a third and the number of people using Accident and Emer gency-He believes that the message should be that the NHS is open to all.

Andy Burnham is now updating -He begins with PPE which he says is improving but that is down to the efforts of the region.A major consignment of masks has been sitting at Heathrow Airport for five days but a million masks are now on their way to the region.

On Household Waste he says there has been a loosening of the guidance from Central Government .Agreement has been reached at the meting this morning and that there will be a partial reopening of some of the region’s depot’s over the next two weeks.

On Homelessness, the Mayor says that at the start there would be 1003 people needing help.As of today 1140 people have been helped but there are still 115 people sleeping rough.

Frustratingly he says people are still coming onto the streets, some through release from prison.

On Metrolink, on which he said yesterday could be in danger of being wound down-There have been some indications overnight that the Government may be releasing some funding but he does not know what the Government’s offer will be.

Sir Richard Leese is giving an update on the economy.”There are still gaps for self employed and part time workers-we have been lobbying for these issues.

“There will be a major task in getting the economy running once the lockdown begins to ease

£541m of income has been lost across the Ten Borough’s of Greater Manchester,while the amount coming in from Government is £89m to date which will increase to £178m
