Lucy Letby cried from the dock “I’m innocent” as a judge at Manchester Crown Court sentenced her to a whole-life prison order for attempting to murder a newborn girl.

The former nurse was found guilty by a jury following a retrial at Manchester Crown Court.

The jury heard how a very premature” infant had her breathing tube dislodged in the early hours of 17 February 2016 at the Countess of Chester Hospital

Letby was already serving a whole life sentence for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others in the original trial last year
