The next Labour Government will drive a revolution in maths.

Speaking at the Labour Party Conference Shadow Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told delegates in Liverpool

“Rishi Sunak talks about extending maths to 18. But if young people hate maths at 16, it’s just too late. These problems need to be tackled early, not left to fester”

The party promises it will set children up with practical maths skills from the very start, so they can achieve at school, at work and throughout life.

Children will be taught maths using football league tables and cooking recipes

Phillipson said she was determined to “bring maths to life for the next generation”, saying young people needed numeracy for life and for work.
