A Tameside Labour Councillor used the council meeting to dramatically announce her resignation from the party
Councillor Ann Holland stood up in Tameside’s town hall and quit Labour mid-meeting, immediately before the leader Eleanor Willis was about to speak.
After nearly four decades waving the red flag, she’s now independent because, in her own words, she’s “sick and tired of what’s going on.”
Holland has represented Labour for the Droylsden West ward for 36 years, since being first elected in June 1989 and it is understood that she was not going to stand in next May’s local elections
It is the latest crisis to hit the party
with nine independent members now on the council
