The new King Charles III has addressed the nation for the first time since acceding to the throne on the death of his mother yesterday afternoon
Speaking from Buckingham Palace he said that “Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived, a promise that destiny kept”
“We owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to their mother“ he added saying
“I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you. And I share that sense of loss beyond measure with you all.”
“I have been brought up to cherish a sense of duty to others…..”I solemnly pledge myself…to uphold the constitutional principles at the heart of our nation” and said that
“I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love.”
He has announced that William becomes Prince of Wales, taking on his former title, and the Duchess of Cambridge becomes Princess of Wales and expresses his love for Harry and Meghan as they “build their life overseas”
Of his mother he finished by saying ” “To my darling Mama, I want to simply say this; thank you, thank you for your love and devotion…may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”
