Boris Johnson has told parents they should “absolutely” send their children to school in areas where primaries are open.

Speaking to the Andrew Marr show this morning,he said that there is “no doubt in my mind that schools are safe”

Johnson added that the Government will follow the public health advice on schools – even though it is that keeping them open means R won’t fall below one.

“Schools are safe.” he said adding that “The risks to young people are very, very small indeed… the risk to staff is very small.”

The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has tweeted

“ I am determined to do all I can to protect our children & protect their education and wellbeing, we must ensure the youngest in our society do not bear the heaviest cost while we beat this virus.”

The Prime Minister also warned that more Covid restrictions are on their way.

“We are entirely reconciled to doing what it takes to get the virus down and that may involve tougher measures in the weeks ahead.” he told the show

He also said that @tens of millions” of people will be vaccinated in next few months although he held back from guaranteeing the two million a week figure.
