Rochdale are now winless in four and suffered back to back defeats with a 1-0 loss to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend. Despite dominating possession and having their fair share of shots, they only managed one on target. It was that lack of cutting edge which added to the anger of the fans following the match. Chislett’s 92nd minute was enough for Wimbledon to secure the three points.
Wigan Athletic also suffered defeat in League One. In a huge match at the bottom of the early table, it was Oxford United that came away with the three points. It leaves managerless Wigan with four league defeats on the trot and already five points from safety. Wigan managed an 89th-minute goal to set up a nervy seven minutes of injury time. However, it was too little too late for Latics.
LEAGUE TWO
Into League Two and it was wins all round for our teams. Salford City impressed under new man Richie Wellens. A 3-0 thrashing of Bradford City saw them win in the league after two defeats. The game was wrapped up by half time with Burgess scoring two and Henderson popping up on the stroke of halftime to make it three goals in a satisfying 45 minutes.
Bolton Wanderers made it two wins from two with a 2-1 win over Stevenage. It lifts Ian Evatt’s side up to into midtable alongside Oldham Athletic. Bolton shot into a 2-0 lead inside 35 minutes with Doyle grabbing his second in two games, alongside Crawford who made it two. Stevenage pulled one back just before half time, however, Bolton had enough to seal the win.
Oldham Athletic made it three wins from five as they climb into midtable. Exeter took the lead after 12 minutes through Williams, however, Blackwood and a stunning free-kick from Rowe made it 2-1 after 32′ minutes. Despite being under the cosh for long periods of the second half, Oldham was never really troubled and seen out the game.
NON-LEAGUE
Altrincham shot up the table with a 1-0 win over Boreham Wood, with Phil Parkinson’s men making it two wins on the bounce. A McDonald 86th minute winner after a prolonged period of domination finally wore Boreham Wood down. The win leaves them one point behind neighbours Stockport County, however, Jim Gannon’s men have three games in hand.
In the National League North, Curzon Ashton suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat to Leamington. Following their win over league favourites Flyde, they seemed to suffer a bit of a mid-week hangover and didn’t look like the side they have been in recent weeks. Even with the loss, Curzon remains in the play-off places, however, they are three to four games ahead of some of their neighbours in the league table.
