An artist and acclaimed musician, whose work has seen him tour with the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Chrissie Hynde and Lucinda Williams, is making waves with his groundbreaking ability to enable deaf people to enjoy sound.

JP Jones, a Welsh born artist and musician, who has exhibited in London, Paris and Sydney is bringing his latest inspirational sound visual exhibition to Manchester on Wednesday 24th May 2023, with a percentage of sales being donated to Manchester Deaf Centre (MDC).

Motivated by his quest to marry his two greatest passions – music and art – Jones has created a visual language from the invisible patterns of sound; a technique that has been hugely welcomed and revered by the deaf community.

Using laser kinetics, reflective mirrors and moving light projections Jones has eradicated the confines of sensory limitations and created a technique that enables people to see sound visually. Jones developed the technique when he was at art school and a musician in a band and his first ‘Sounds Portraits’ collection was born.

Hailed an auditory visionary for his ability to create powerful patterns, shapes and lines representative of the original acoustic – be that a song, the sound of your own name or even a heartbeat – Jones delivers a ‘visual celebration of sound’ via every portrait.

Speaking on his ‘Sounds Portraits’ exhibition at Ducie Street Warehouse in Manchester next week JP said: “I am hugely excited to bring ‘Sounds Portraits’ to Manchester next week. Music and art are my two great passions so being able to combine the two so intricately and to create such personal, bespoke pieces for people is amazing. I’m hoping the people of Manchester enjoy my work as much as I do creating it.”

The exhibition will hold 50+ artworks, etchings, prints and painted light installations. Bespoke commissions are also available.

The money donated by JP Jones to Manchester Deaf Centre will pay for art supplies for a workshop for the MDC ‘Young Peoples Group’ by JP Jones on Thursday 22 June to enable young deaf people to visually experience sound through art.

JP Jones ‘Sound Portraits’ exhibition on Wednesday 24th May 6.30-10pm Ducie Street Warehouse, Ducie Street, Manchester M1 2TP
