Interim compensation payments of £210,000 will be paid to some victims of the infected blood scandal, the government has announced this lunchtime

Compensation for victims of the infected blood scandal will be awarded in line with five categories:

1. An injury impact award
2. A social impact award
3. An autonomy award
4. A care award
5. A financial loss award

John Glen confirmed in a statement that when an infected blood victim is accepted onto the scheme, their loved ones will be eligible to apply for payouts ‘in their own right’

The interim payments will be paid within 90 days, while the final scheme becomes operational and will go to “living infected beneficiaries, those registered with existing infected blood support schemes”, and those who register while the final scheme is set up
