An inquiry into one of the biggest health scandals in the U.K. has concluded that a cover up made it worse
Around 3,000 people have died as a result of the scandal, while many more still live under the shadow of health problems, some over 40 years later
Tens of thousands of people were infected with HIV and hepatitis after being given contaminated blood and blood products from the 1970s to early 1990s.
The report has highlighted numerous systemic, collective, and individual failings that led to this tragedy, aiming to bring justice to the victims
Its overwhelming conclusion was that there was a “subtle, pervasive and chilling” cover-up of the UK’s infected blood scandal
The scandal it added was no accident”, and the blame for failings lies with “successive governments”,
There was a ‘catalogue of failures’ and ‘downright deception’ by NHS and governments
