A Stretford -based couple who have been married 63 years, are sharing their tips for a long, happy marriage in the lead up to Valentine’s Day. The couple show that despite all adversities, including Pat’s dementia, love always wins.

Pat and Stan met in 1953 at a house party.  They got married in 1957 and in 1963 they bought the house that they still live in today. Two children and many years of happiness later, the pair are still inseparable.  Stan’s piece of advice that he would give to himself before he got married, ‘be lucky’, sums up Stan and Pat’s unbreakable partnership which began with luck the night that they met. Stan admits that Pat’s dementia has impacted them but ‘magical moments’ keep their spark alive.     He also said: “I act the fool. Very simple really because I am a fool!”

Pat’s dementia has developed over recent years, but Stan is committed to remaining at home with his wife, where they both belong. With the support of Helping Hands Home Care, Stan looks after Pat, ensuring that she is not only cared for but still gets to experience the magical moments of their marriage.

Stan sets out to make Pat smile every day, he has been known to go to great lengths to achieve this goal. This would be a great story to share with your readers this Valentine’s Day, to remind people that, no matter what’s happening in the world, or no matter what you’re going through, love always wins.
