A state-of-the-art diagnostic suite in Manchester has been used by hundreds of patients after successfully launching earlier this year.
Nuffield Health, a not-for-profit healthcare organisation, held the official opening of the 7,279 sq ft space at Citylabs in January.

Barbara Baker, Manchester Market Director for Nuffield Health, said staff have looked after 433 cases since Olympian and 800m Commonwealth Games champion Diane Modahl presided over the opening ceremony.

The diagnostic suite offers world class MR, X-ray, mammography, CT, cardiac and ultrasound services from the heart of the city’s Corridor district just off Oxford Road.

“The first three months have gone really well,” said Barbara. “We have received a lot of interest to date; everyone has been really impressed with the standard of facilities, equipment and customer experience, which has been measured through our patient and consultant feedback processes.

“We have had 433 episodes, or cases, since opening – which is great, as people are using the suite for a variety of reasons.”

Barbara said that the facility complemented Nuffield Health’s existing presence in Manchester to provide a comprehensive wellbeing and diagnostic offering across the city.

The diagnostic suite in the former Manchester Royal Eye Hospital is adjacent to Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT). Nuffield Health and CMFT also have a partnership arrangement that means the new diagnostic suite can be used to support the care of NHS patients.

Barbara said: “Nuffield Health works in a collaborative way within the healthcare and science academic landscape, their overriding aim being a plan to deliver services across a local network of experts and health and wellbeing facilities supported by digital technology and clinical research and innovation. This will enable a proposition that will lead also support Manchester’s long term vision within the devolution agenda to achieve the best health outcomes for the region.

“We also have a comprehensive offering for sports men and women,” she said. “Which includes MRI, DXA scanning for muscle and bone density and physio, which we are looking to grow.

“We take a preventative approach with corporates through tailored health assessments and staff wellbeing packages, with a focus on early diagnosis and a healthy lifestyle.

She added: “We also have the latest MRI and CT scanners which incorporate an ambient, patient-controlled multi-sensorial experience.

“The feedback has been outstanding so far. Those patients who have been anxious and have claustrophobic fear have successfully been able to undergo their scans, where this has not been possible elsewhere.’

“We are now starting to engage with the wider GP community to inform them of our services whilst also offering educational seminars.”
