Thirty year old Samuel Opokiti has been sentenced to a Section 37 hospital order, with a Section 41 restriction order, at Manchester Crown Court today
Police arrived at a property on Rushmere Avenue, in Levenshulme in July 2023 and discovered the victim, a 36-year-old man, with serious stab injuries. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Opokiti, who was 29 at the time, was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. However, as officers entered the kitchen of the address and found the victim deceased. Opokiti was further arrested on suspicion of murder, and a knife was recovered from the scene.
The address was immediately made a crime scene and cordoned off as detectives carried out their investigations. A post-mortem established the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson, from GMP’s Major Investigations Team, said: “It has been more than 18 months since the tragic death of Osagie and I hope today’s sentence gives a sense of closure to his family and loved ones.
“We know just how much his family have been affected by his loss and our thoughts remain with them today as they continue to re-build their lives.”
