Greggs has revealed a jump in sales and profits in 2024 as it opened new shops

Results revealed this morning saw the bakery group hit £2bn in sales for the first time and achieved record profits of £203m.

The results will see the staff share £20m in bonuses

However sales growth slowed in the early weeks of 2025, with “challenging” weather conditions in January, as its chief executive warned of a “tough” year ahead.

Looking ahead to 2025, the macroeconomic landscape remains tough. Inflation remains elevated, and many of our customers continue to worry about the cost of living,” CEO Roisin Currie said in a statement on Tuesday.
January’s outcome was hurt by snow and rain, while Greggs said it had seen “improved trading” in February.
Greggs opened a record 226 new shops in 2024 with 28 closures and 53 relocations and also refurbished 165 existing shops.
The chain is targeting 140 to 150 net openings in 2025, including 50 relocations, as part of long-term plans to open more than 3,000 UK shops
