Manchester residents are looking to future proof their homes this summer with new data from British Gas revealing a surge in interest for heat pumps in the area, as households rally together to meet the region’s 2038 Net Zero targets.
New data from the brand revealed that enquiries in the region are five times higher than the UK average, with the number of enquiries surrounding heat pumps in Manchester more than trebled when compared to the previous month.
It’s clear that residents in Manchester are making serious moves to invest in greener heating solutions with heat pump installation top of the agenda. In fact, when it comes to enquiries across the UK, Manchester is leading the charge this month, with almost double the number of enquiries for heat pumps than in the South-West (Exeter, Plymouth, Bournemouth) – where heat pump installation is amongst the highest.
Manchester also accounts for 57% of total heat pump installations across the Greater Manchester area, followed by Bolton, Stockport and Bury.v
As a highly effective low carbon heating option, heat pumps offer many benefits to Manchester households and play a key role in the region’s 2038 Net Zero strategy.
In the right home, heat pumps can be 350% more efficient that even the best boilers and save the same amount of carbon that would be produced by 2,500 miles in the average petrol car!
British Gas is committed to helping the region meet its ambitious target to become a zero carbon city by 2038 at the latest, 12 years ahead of the Government’s target for the UK of 2050. To deliver on this, Greater Manchester Combined Authority plans to install 116,000 heat pumps in homes alongside a range of other low carbon alternatives including solar panels and electric cars.
With qualified engineers servicing Manchester, and the largest engineering workforce in the country, British Gas is uniquely positioned to guide and equip customers in Manchester on their heat pump journey. As well as guiding customers through the process of installing a heat pump, British Gas’ new Warm Home Promise, guarantees customers their money back if a heat pump does not warm their home as effectively as a traditional gas boiler, helping reassure those that may be hesitant about making the switch to a heat pump. British Gas will also price match any like for like MCS credited installations, so customers can be confident they’re paying the lowest price possible for their heat pump.
Kim Royds, Regional Business Director – Manchester, British Gas comments: “With the majority of homes in Manchester suitable for a heat pump, it’s great to see the uplift in demand within the area, which will cut both cost and carbon emissions for customers. Heat pumps are not only a highly effective heating option, but they are also a key factor in helping the city reach its 2038 zero carbon city target.
“Here at British Gas, we will do everything we can to support the people of Manchester as they make this transition.
