The government has announced new funding to make schools more inclusive for students with special education needs and disabilities
Under the plans Mainstream schools will be expected to produce new statutory support plans for pupils with SEND, while new national inclusion standards are also set to be introduced, the government has announced in its long-awaited SEND reforms
Parents of children currently in year two and below will have to apply for a new system of targeted SEND support,
Schools will be legally forced to produce new plans for every child with SEND – in a bid to stop parents going to court to have to fight for a legally-binding plan and extra which works for their child.
In the next four years, the government will pump another £4billion of funding into getting mainstream schools to help get them ready to support more SEND pupils.
Announcing the proposals Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said that while the British school system has come a long way, there is still a big disadvantage gap for SEND pupils.
Our system works well for some children, but not all.”
