A 24 year old Manchester man who acted as a getaway driver has been jailed for seven years after an incident that saw gunshots fired at a property on Slade Lane back in 2019

Jamaal Khan of Lowther Avenue has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The court heard how on Sunday 2 June 2019, Khan and another associate bought a Peugeot 307 for £330, which would go on to be used as a getaway car during the firearms discharge just two days later.

Shortly before 3.40am on Tuesday 4 June 2019, police were called to reports that shots had been fired at a property on Slade where it was believed that there were around 10 people inside with one of the females in the house having to take cover as the bullets were scattered throughout the downstairs lounge.

No one was injured in the incident and shortly after CCTV footage showed a silver Peugeot 307 being driven away from the scene to Crantock Street in Longsight, with Khan spotted walking away from the abandoned vehicle.

The court heard how the other three defendants in this case – Akaash Hussain, Hamza Haq and Mustafa Zaidi – made their way to a nearby petrol station on Stockport Road.

Zaidi filled up a petrol can with fuel before he, Hussain and Haq travel to Crantock Street where CCTV footage captures them in possession of the petrol can containing the fuel.

Multiple attempts were made to made to set the Peugeot on fire in order to try and conceal any evidence.

In 2022, Khan’s associate Akaash Hussain was sentenced to six and a half years imprisonment for conspiracy to supply Class A and Class B drugs, section 20 assault and perverting the course of justice.

Hussain was sentenced to three years imprisonment for conspiracy to supply Class A and Class B drugs, and Haq was handed a three year and seven-month sentence for perverting the course of justice and violent disorder.
