Sir Gavin Williamson has resigned as a Government minister amid claims of bullying and intimidation

Williamson said that the allegations against him were “becoming a distraction for the good work this government is doing”.

He added that he aims to “clear my name of any wrongdoing”

He was appointed as Minister without Portfolio in Rishi Sunak’s cabinet less than two weeks ago.

He faces an investigation over allegations that he told a former senior civil servant to “slit your throat” in a sustained campaign of bullying and a series of texts were published at the weekend which showed him threatening the former Chief Whip Wendy Morton claiming that he has been barred from the Queen’s funeral
