Rochdale’s new MP George Galloway has clarified his position on challenging Andy Burnham for the position of Mayor of Greater Manchester

Galloway hinted last week that he may challenge Burnham in the upcoming May elections telling the Manchester Evening News thatthe city had been “abandoned not just by the government but by the mayor”.

Adding : “If I stand, it would be on a platform of a better deal for Manchester’s surrounding towns.”

However Labour List got in contact with the Rochdale MP yesterday and was told I will stand against Burnham – in 2028.” although refusing to give any further details

Burnham,standing for a third term will be standing against Conservative candidate Dan Barker, Liberal Democrat Jake Austin and Reform candidate Nick Buckley.
