Greater Manchester will receive £2.5bn to extend its tram network to Stockport and add stops in Bury, Manchester and Oldham as the Chancellor Rachel Reeves is set to announce up to £15 billion pounds of investment for the North of England

In a speech in Manchester she is expected to confirm that she will change Treasury investment rules in an effort to divert money away from the southeast of England into areas which she will say have been locked out of receiving investment in the past

Funding for a new Liverpool to Manchester railway is also expected to be announced as well as other transport projects including a West Yorkshire mass transit system

In a speech Reeves is expected to say that sticking to book’s rules has meant “growth created in too few places, felt by too few people and wide gaps between regions, and between our cities and towns”.

The new tram stops will be Sandhills on the Bury line just north of Victoria Station.It will serve the Victoria North project, the planned development that stretches up to Collyhurst from Angel Meadow
