A former police constable at Greater Manchester Police has been banned from profession after he was convicted of two sexual assaults upon two females aged over 16
PC Hatel Patel resigned from the force in October 2022 while under investigation but had he not resigned would have been instantly dismissed from the force
Patel was jailed for eight months, suspended for two years and given 150 hours community service in March 2025
During the hearing earlier this week which was not attended by Patel,GMP Chief Constable Stephen Watson said that
Mr Patel has paid a heavy price for his offending. He rightly stands convicted of sexual offences; it has caused him to lose his position as a constable and he has lost his good name and reputation.
“Given the features of this case I find I am unable to reconcile the maintenance of public confidence with doing anything other than making the clearest declaration that had Mr Patel not resigned, I would have dismissed him from the service without notice.”
