The former Tory MP for Heywood and Middleton Chris Clarkson has been accused of running to the South to protect his job in the House of Commons

Clarkson who won the Greater Manchester sat by just over 600 votes in 2019 has disappeared to Stratford upon Avon, the former seat of Nadhim Zahawi who had a majority at the last election of 20,000 plus

Clarkson’s former constituency area was replaced by two new seats, but in a statement last year, Mr Clarkson said:

“Following the Boundary Review’s recommendation that the current Heywood and Middleton seat be replaced by a new Heywood seat and a new Manchester Blackley seat I have decided not to seek selection for either.”

However according to the Politico website, his new potential constituents are non too happy after he clinched the select room last night

“His record in parliament for the people of Heywood and Middleton was execrable and he has run away from that seat because he knows he will not win it again,” the Stratford CAN campaign of Conservatives hoping for a local candidate said. “If elected, Clarkson will be another absentee MP who will do nothing for the people of Stratford-upon-Avon.”
