Former Coronation Street star Julie Goodyear has been diagnosed with dementia.

In a statement released earlier today, The soap veteran’s husband said he and Julie “have had to come to terms with this heart-breaking diagnosis”.

The statement concludes: “Julie remains a patron of Willow Wood Hospice in Greater Manchester.”

The now 81 year old actress who was born in Bury first appeared on the soap in 1966 but became a regular spending 25 years on the show between 1970 and 1995, and returning for a few episodes in 2002 and 2003

She was made an MBE in the 1996 New Year Honours.
