The former the former Bury and Burnely footballer Len Johnrose has died at the age of 52.

He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2017 and had campaigned for more funding for MND research.

In a statement the Len Johnrose Trust

“We are heartbroken to tell you that our leader, Len Johnrose passed away this morning. Len was an incredibly proud husband and father. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

The footballer spent six yeas with Bury Football club dring the 1990’s and the club tweeted

“The news of Lenny Johnrose’s passing has hit us hard. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends today. He will always have a special place in our hearts. Share your everlasting memories of this #Shakers hero”
