ForHousing is set to complete works on a new development at Mayfield Avenue, Walkden, delivering 18 homes in Worsley for social rent.

The development consists of 12 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments, supporting Salford City Council’s efforts to deliver more truly affordable homes.

Construction began in March 2024 and is now being completed.

With a total value of £3.5 million, the project received £1.35 million in external funding from Homes England and also £270,000 from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Brownfield Grant funding programme.

The new homes are all fully electric, with no gas supply, helping to reduce energy costs for tenants while also lowering their environmental impact.

Timber frame construction was also used throughout the project as a more sustainable and environmentally friendly material.

Councillor Tracy Kelly, Statutory Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty, said:

“Salford, like many areas, face significant demand for social housing, which is why projects like this are crucial in addressing that challenge and ensuring more people have access to secure, quality homes they can be proud of.

“These new homes will provide stability for local families and people while supporting our wider strategy to increase the supply of high-quality, affordable housing. We look forward to seeing tenants move into their new homes.”

Nigel Sedman, Executive Director of Homes at ForHousing said:

“Affordable, well-built homes are the foundation of strong communities. This new development will not only provide safe, well maintained homes but also contribute to the wider regeneration of the area – creating a better future for local people.

“We’re grateful for the support from Salford City Council, Homes England, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Collaborative efforts like these are so important as we work together to meet current and future housing need.”
