A national air traffic control issue has affected flights at the UK’s airports this afternoon
The issue has now been resolved but passengers are being asked to check flights before they travel
The issue was detected at the NATS Swanwick air traffic control centre with all outbound UK flights have been affected, with Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham among airports reporting delays
After saying engineers were “working hard to resolve the problem”, NATS said the issue’s been resolved – but delays will continue
In a statement issued Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said :
“I have been informed systems have now been restored but continued disruption is expected, and passengers should check with individual airports for advice.”
