An 8-year-old boy received head injuries and was taken to hospital  where he remains in a serious but stable condition after being hit by a car in Rusholme last night.

The incident happened outside Manchester Academy on Moss Lane East

The driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving. He remains in custody for questioning.

Police Constable Simon Venguedasalon, of GMPs Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A young boy was seriously injured last night and we need to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, to please contact us at your earliest opportunity.”
