A cracking first half goal from Dominic Smith secured three points for the Bloods in this hard fought local derby against high flying Glossop North End in this Evo Stik Division One North clash.

Droylsden, weakened by injuries, especially the loss of Captain Steve Hall,  were looking to avenge a early season thrashing and could have fallen behind early on when Jamie Rainford took too long after a defensive slip by goalkeeper Craig Ellison.

But the Bloods took the lead after fourteen minutes with captain Domaine Rouse heading in from a hopeful cross into the box which the Glossop defence should have dealt with.

The away team were level minutes later, a through ball into the box converted by Rainford but a super strike by Saturday’s hero Blood’s hero Dominic Smith,  picking up the ball on the right of the area and hammering his shot in off the underside of the bar, put the Bloods back in front after thirty three minutes.

A tight second half saw the away team having much of the possession without ever finding the final ball while the best chances fell to Droylsden with Brandon Zibaka slicing wide after a shot was deflected by the keeper and Smith forcing another great save from Greg Hall in the Glossop goal.

Droylsden’s second consecutive win lifts them up to nineteenth in the table, with games in hand over the clubs above, and they travel to New Mills on Saturday who have yet to pick up a point this season.
