Police have revealed that they arrested a 36 year old male after an incident on Bonfire night in Openshaw when an Volkswagen Golf R collided with six pedestrians and failed to stop

Four of those were male and two female aged between 13 and 68.

Following treatment at hospital, it has been established that one male has suffered injuries that are likely to be life-changing.

The driver, a 36-year-old man, failed to stop at the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, assault of an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply drugs, failing to stop, aggravated vehicle taking and driving without third-party insurance. The driver is currently released on bail.

Detective Constable Jake Horler-Newsham from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said; “Since the incident we are continuing to investigate and would like to appeal to the local community to get in touch if they have any further footage available. We know there was a large number of people out that evening watching the fireworks so are keen to obtain more evidence in the form of mobile phone videos, CCTV and doorbell footage to help us with our enquiries.
