Around one in 220 people in private households in England had Covid-19 between February 21 and 27, according to new estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) – the lowest figure since the end of September.

The ONS estimate that 248,100 people within the community population in England had COVID-19.

The figures in Wales are around 1 in 285 people, around 1 in 325 people in Northern Ireland and 1 in 335 people in Scotland.

The North East has the highest regional rate for England,, around one in 150 people were likely to test positive for coronavirus in the week to 27 February.

In the West Midlands, the figure was one in 160,East Midlands: one in 185,North West: one in 190,London: one in 195,Yorkshire and the Humber: one in 225,East: one in 260 for eastern England,South East: one in 340 and South West: one in 365.

Meanwhile in another ONS survey out today,a higher proportion of adults, for the first time since the January lockdown, are now optimistic that feel life will return back to normal within six months.

Around a third of adults see their lives will return to normal in six months or less,s an increase from just one in five last week who shared a similar outlook for the future.
