Another 64 people have died with the coronavirus, according to government data as fears rage across Europe over the Astra Zeneca vaccine

It brings the total number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for COVID-19 in the UK to 125,580.

5,089 more coronavirus cases were also recorded in the latest figures, meaning 4,263,527 people have now tested positive in the UK.

It comes as another 257,010 first doses of a coronavirus vaccine were administered yesterday, meaning 24,453,221 people have now had an initial dose while 1,610,280 second doses have been given out – a rise of 25,371.

Meanwhile there is growing anxiety across Europe over the Astra Zeneca vaccine over safety.

Germany and France have joined Denmark, Norway, the Reublic of Ireland, Italy,the Netherlands and Bulgaria in suspending the rollout of the jabs after reports of blood clots developing in patients who had received the shot.

The European Medicines Agency has said that as of March 10, a total of 30 cases of blood clotting had been reported among close to five million people vaccinated with the AstraZeneca jab in the European Economic Area.

Boris Johnson said the Covid-19 jab was safe and stressed that the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was one of the “toughest and most experienced” in the world.
