The UK’s four Chief Medical Officers have recommended that all healthy children aged between 12-15 should be offered the Covid vaccine
They say that the benefits of vaccinating young people and reducing transmission of the virus outweighed potential costs of side effects for children and disruption to school timetables.
They also recommended that ministers “present the risk-benefit decisions in a way that is accessible to children and young people, as well as their parents”.
Professor Chris Whitty said disruption to children’s education was having a ‘big impact on health, mental health and long-term public health’.
It will now be up to ministers whether to accept the recommendation of the four CMOs.
