Matt Hancock believes that Covid-19 is in retreat.

Speaking at the Downing Street Press Conference, the Health Secretary said

“It is clear coronavirus is in retreat across the country, but we must be vigilant and cautious, and we are taking a safety-first approach. It means we can proceed with our plan, for instance looking towards the proposals next week to the retail sector, and people can have confidence taking their children to school in the three years that we’ve opened so far.”

The number of daily deaths has fallen to 55, the lowest since March 22.There were no deaths recorded in London and in Scotland.

Hancock says the number of care home deaths is also falling.

138,183 tests were carried out yesterday, with 1,205 new cases confirmed, the lowest since March.

The total number of new daily admissions to hospitals is down by more than 100, he adds. The total number of people in hospital is also falling in all regions.
