A Former Labour councillor Oliver Steadman has denied blackmailing former Greater Manchester Conservative MP Will Wragg
The charges follow a police investigation into unsolicited messages that were sent to prominent figures in Westminster.
A trial is expected to start in October 2027
Steadman I’d also charged with five other offences of improper use of public communications.
Mr Wragg, who was Hazel Grove MP and an influential backbencher, resigned the Tory whip in April 2024 and stood down from Parliament at the subsequent general election after he admitted giving out the phone numbers of politicians to someone he met on dating app Grindr.
He added in a later interview that he felt “enormous remorse” and had experienced suicidal thoughts.
