One of Bury’s newest café bars will open a second venue this month at a Bury Council rehabilitation centre.

Killelea House in Brandlesholme is where Cosalea will run a daytime café and help to ensure that the centre remains at the heart of the community.

This is part of the £2 million refurbishment of Killelea, which provides rehabilitation and recovery for adults following a stay in hospital or to help avoid an admission to hospital.

Following the refurbishment, a space for community use was created to include a café area and hairdressers.

The Covid pandemic forced the closure of these spaces, but following changes in government guidance these spaces can now open.

Cosalea Brandlesholme will open its doors to the public on Wednesday 15 June at 9am and will initially be open Wednesday–Saturday from 9am until 3pm. From the end of July, opening hours will be extended to seven days a week.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Refurbishing Killelea is all about promoting social inclusion, creating a vibrant hub where a bistro will be used by both the scheme’s residents but also their families and friends, staff and the surrounding community

“With the hairdresser’s, and ultimately a shop, it will also help to develop volunteering, work placements, employment and training opportunities for people in Bury and local supply chains.

“We were delighted to welcome Coselea to Killelea due to their strong commitment to community and social value, and a service aligned to our Let’s Do It strategy.”

In September 2020 Cosalea launched on Walshaw Road, Bury, as a new place to eat, meet and create.

Coselea owner Lisa Moore, who grew up in Holcombe Brook and attended Woodhey High School, said: “The local community is at the heart of everything we do, and we’ve built a loyal base of customers who love nothing more than popping in for a coffee, something to eat and chat with our friendly team and one another.

“Killelea House is the perfect place to help us continue this fantastic service, and we can’t wait to welcome staff, residents and the public to see all we have to offer. Cosalea Brandlesholme will open to provide high quality food and drink to all café customers and create a vibrant hub to be enjoyed by all generations, families and local residents.
