The Manchester based Co-op has announced that it will be giving a £20 voucher to every child on free school meals at its academies.

The organisation says that it will help 6,500 children.There are six Co-op Academies across Greater Manchester.

In an announcement the Co-op CEO Steve Murrells asked the Government to lead a nationwide effort to make sure that no child goes hungry just because they can’t get to school.

He added that the Co-op were urgently looking to anything they can do to help in the current crisis
