This year Bury Hospice celebrates its 30th anniversary. In that time it has provided a phenomenal level of care and support to people in the Bury area. Now a partnership between the Hospice and Keenans estate agents in Bury will see a donation of £30,000 going straight to the fundraising efforts of the Hospice. For every house listed during the month of July customers will be asked to commit to a donation to the Hospice when it sells. Keenans will effectively be selling houses for free.

People may not realise that Hospices are self-funding charities. It costs around £3 million to run Bury Hospice for a year and the vast majority of that money comes from public donations.

In order to help them with funding for this year, Keenans have also created a school competition, with the top prize for the winning entry of a family break in a lodge at Gulliver’s World in Warrington in October, plus there are also runners up prizes of a family ticket for three lucky children!

The competition is for Reception class, plus Year One and Year Two and is running across 47 primary schools in the Bury area. Keenans have provided a cut out mini house, to be used for a colouring competition, they can be decorated as their own house and family or an imaginary one. Children take the boxes home, to be returned with donations.

Keenans ran a trial with Tottington Primary, and the class used it as an opportunity to talk about helping others and the work of charities, and were encouraged to help out with chores at home and be paid for doing so, which would become their donation.

Mrs Taylor, Head of School at Tottington Primary School, said: “The children really loved the activity and helping people in need. We were so pleased to be the first school to be involved. We hope lots of other schools will take part and raise lots of money for this worthy charity.”

The houses will go on display in Bury Hospice shops, plus Keenans office in the Rock, Bury, and the winners will be chosen in August.
