In one of his few speaking appearances at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool Greater Nanchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham has launched an attack on the party under Keir Starmer
He accused the Labour leader of presiding over a “climate of fear” in Labour and called for an “open debate” and change “the way our party is being run” hitting out at what he described as the “simplistic statements of loyalty” to the party
Burnham warned that there was a risk of underestimating the peril the party is in as we get to the polls for the local elections next May”.
He claimed that the debate over spending and the bond markets was preventing a proper debate in the Labour Party adding that he was speaking out for millions who want a more hopeful direction for the country.
Calling for a more “collaborative politics” at the conference electoral reform rally
He says: “This is an idea whose time has come. Because the world we are in now demands a new politics — it demands a new approach.”
