The murderers of transgender student, Brianna Ghey, have been named as 16-year-olds Scarlett Jenkinson from Warrington & Eddie Ratcliffe from Leigh and will be jailed for life with a minimum of 22 years for Jenkinson and 20 for Radcliffe before they would be able to apply for parole
Sentencing them Judge Justice Yip finds that transphobia was a factor in the murder
She said
Scarlet, you committed this murder in broad daylight, with other people around, where she was bound to be found. Dr Church no longer believes you have traces of Autism and ADHD. Scarlet, you have lied so many times, you have shown no remorse”
adding
“you knew she was different! You wanted your victim to feel fear! You told Eddie you wanted to hear her scream & keep body parts!”
To Radcliffe she said
Eddie, despite information in the previous sentencing report, it is clear that you knew what you were doing. ASD has some impact, but it is no mitigation.”
