At 8.30am on Friday 25 November, Pieminister in Manchester’s Northern Quarter will become a Black Pieday Pop-up Shop, giving away pies in return for donations to Shelter.

A refreshing alternative to the usual Black Friday spending-frenzy, Pieminister’s Black Pieday is an opportunity for the people of Manchester to spend their money wisely, giving to charity in return for delicious pies.

Hundreds of the Northern Quarter Pieminister’s  award winning Classics will be up for grabs and every single penny given in return will go directly to the housing and homelessness charity, Shelter from their pop up shop on Church Street

Pieminister Co-founder and MD Jon Simon says, “With many of us gearing up for a Black Friday spending spree this Friday, we wanted to turn this event on its head and use it to do something good. Shelter helps millions of people struggling with bad housing or homelessness every year and Black Pieday is a chance to support the charity and get a pie in return. We think that’s money-well-spent.” adding

Our pop-up shop on Church Street will open at 8.30am so you can get your pies on your way to work or as you head to the shops. We’ll have free range British chicken pies, British steak pies and Vegetarian Society Approved pies to choose from so get here early for the best selection. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Black Pieday is the inspiration behind another of Pieminister’s charitable initiatives called Little Acts of Pieness. The campaign began in Spring 2016, inviting individuals and organisations to apply for free pies for community events and charity fundraisers. Since launch, Pieminister has donated 18,000 pies through Little Acts of Pieness, helping raising £1000’s for national and local charities and community initiatives (from street parties and fetes to pie and pint fundraising nights) across the UK.

Jon Simon says, ‘We see Black Pieday as our Little Acts of Pieness ‘Season Finale’, rounding-off a great summer spent putting surplus pies to good use. We hope pie-lovers in our restaurant towns and cities will join us on Black Pieday and give generously through this #littleactofpieness for Shelter’.
