Altrincham-based community photography competition has welcomed Karen Wroe from Art with a Heart onboard as a competition judge

Altrincham-based community photography competition has welcomed Karen Wroe from Art with a Heart onboard as a competition judge.

Art with a Heart is a charity that works to raise awareness of the arts and develop young people. Karen, herself an artist, set the charity up in 2012 and currently runs it with a team of volunteers.

Karen explains, “Over the years, we have collaborated with many businesses, schools and community groups, so when we heard of the competition launched by Maguire Family Law, we were so keen to get involved and support it. We hope that our arts experience in the community and engaging with schools and young people will help Maguire Family Law attract even wider audience participation and a raft of stunning entries. Most of us now have a camera phone; that’s all you need!  Just head out and see what inspires you!”

Maguire Family Law has added a schools’ specific category to celebrate Karen’s support. Any school can enter, and the best photo will win £250 of art supplies for their class!

This is in addition to the existing prizes of £750 cash for first place, £250 for second and dinner for two in a local restaurant for third place.

James Maguire, founder and partner at Maguire Family Law, said, “We are delighted to have Karen join us as judge; she brings such a wealth of experience and enthusiasm, we know that she will help us to make the competition a huge success and hopefully something that we can continue to build year on year!”

How to enter

  • Enter before 30 June to be in with a chance of winning; we will announce the shortlist in August.
  • The photo can be of anything; it just needs to represent this area in some way — whether that’s the people, the natural environment, landmarks or local wildlife.
  • Any camera will do — even your phone. Just make sure it’s a good quality image, as we will print it out to A3 size, and if it makes the shortlist, it will be displayed later in the year.
  • Make sure you tell us if you are entering the ‘Schools’ category’ and share your age with us, all ages are welcome.
  • Please share your image via social media if you can, remembering to tag with @maguirefamilylaw  @_jamesmaguire and #maguirefamilylaw #capturingaltrincham2022.
  • You can also email your entry if you prefer to maguirefamilylaw@peppermintsoda.co.uk or post it to Maguire Family Law, Stamford New Rd, Altrincham, WA14 1EE.
  • Full terms and conditions can be read here

The shortlist will be displayed in a local exhibition in September, and the winning photographs will be revealed at a special event. The event will include a charity raffle and the chance to buy prints of the shortlisted images. All money raised will be donated to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
