The Conservative Leader of Trafford Council Sean Anstee has been selected as the party’s candidate for next year’s Greater Manchester Mayoral Candidate.
The twenty nine year old, grew up in a council house in Trafford before leaving school at sixteen to take up an apprenticeship at Barclays, eventually becoming vice president at Bank of New York Mellon in Manchester.
First elected as a councillor at the age of twenty, he became leader of Trafford council in 2014, aged twenty six, and is the only Tory leader in the ten Greater Manchester councils.
He is Vice Chairman of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority with portfolio responsibility for Skills, Employment and Worklessness across the city-region.
Anstee defeated Stephen Woods, chairman of Wythenshawe & Sale East Conservatives to the vote.
He tweeted

He will face Andy Burnham Labour’s candidate, fellow Trafford councillor Jane Brophy who will represent the Liberal Democrats, Deyika Nzeribe for the Green Party and Shneur Odze who will represent UKIP.
